There comes a time when even the best amplifier design cannot be refined any further. At that time we take a long hard look at what we all want from a Hi-Fi amplifier. What should it do? What should it look and feel like? Above all, what should it sound like?

When the Arcam engineering and design team sat down to think about the Alpha 10 Series, they were not sitting at a desk. Instead they sat on a comfortable sofa in our spacious training centre in Cambridge. They made themselves comfortable and relaxed a little. They played some of their favourite CDs on one of our acclaimed CD players. And then they listened. At Arcam, when we listen, we listen long and hard. We try to pinpoint the key areas of sound quality and performance that will make a component not just another piece of Hi-Fi, but a potential award-winner worthy of the Arcam name.

We ask our customers, both new and old, together with people who own other brands of Hi-Fi, to tell us what they'd like to see in new Arcam products. We try to learn from them and to build even better products as a result. We feel that the Alpha 10 Series will help to re-define the way you think about amplifiers.

In 1999, the Alpha 10 was awarded Millennium Product Status and it has twice been a What Hi-Fi? supertest winner. The first What Hi-Fi? review, March 1998 said "...the most significant British amplifier for a very long time. Ignore it at your peril." Intrigued? Read on.

The Alpha 10 Series forms a pair of matched 100 watts per channel (r.m.s. into 8 ohms) amplifiers. These are the Alpha 10 Integrated amplifier and the Alpha 10P Power amplifier. Both share a common design philosophy, as well as certain major components. Built to our highest standards using only the best audiophile quality materials, these are amplifiers designed to last and to give you all the functionality you'll ever need. A bold statement perhaps, but just take a look at some of these remarkable features.

Unlike most conventional amplifiers, the Alpha 10 is fully remote controlled. It can be switched on from standby remotely. They can send and route signals to other components in your Hi Fi system and they respond to commands from a handset or from discreet electrical connectors on their rear panels.

Unlike most conventional amplifiers, the Alpha 10 has no volume control. Instead it has a smart rotorary selector. This means you can, of course, select the required volume level, but you could also alter the balance between left and right channels or select other important parameters using this same knob.
