Unlike most amps at this price, the Alpha One
uses audiophile components and techniques
which we have developed over twenty years. These include a toroidal
power transformer and Arcam developed VMOSFET power amplifier
stages. Like all Arcam amps it can be upgraded in the future
by adding a separate power amplifier.
- Ideal 'budget amplifier' with capacity for 5 line inputs
plus tape loop
- Fibreglass circuit board for reliability and sound quality
- Switchable speaker output allows 'silent' headphones use
- Speaker protection relay which ensures safe and consistent
operation
- Pre-amp output sockets allow upgrading with any Alpha
power amp for bi-amping
- 35 watts per channel into 8 ohms continuous output drives
most speaker brands
- Direct button by-passes tone and balance controls for
best sound quality
Production of the Alpha One finished in Autumn 2000.
What Hi-Fi? Guide to Audio 2000 "This is an amp you could
partner with a CD player in the sub-£200 market and
speakers like B&W's DM601S2s and the result would be a sound
at once relaxing and involving."
Hi-Fi Choice awarded the Alpha One a Best Buy in January 1999;
"New entry-level Alpha One is a clean effective all-rounder
in the familiar Arcam mould...."
"Take its very tempting price into account and the Arcam
Alpha One represents a very square deal." Hi Fi World,
January 1999
"...there are very few amps in ths price range which achieve
the performance of the Arcam." Audio (Germany), October
1998
